Handyman / Carpenter (Sole Traders need not apply)

We specialise in maintenance services for Government and Commercial clients and are currently experiencing strong growth within our Government division. As a result, we are seeking experienced Maintenance Technicians (Carpenters / Handymen) to join our team. Sole Traders Need Not Apply

Location

We are looking for personnel based in the Hunter Region, with works primarily located from Newcastle through to Singleton. Occasional travel to Northern and Central NSW may be required.

The Role

You will take ownership of assigned projects, delivering remedial and repair works across a range of building maintenance tasks. This is a hands-on position, requiring you to carry out work independently as well as alongside subcontractors.

You will also:

• Oversee site safety and compliance

• Assist in coordinating construction programs

• Manage subcontractors to ensure timely, high-quality outcomes

• Support pricing and scoping of works

You will work closely with client representatives to coordinate site access, manage materials, resolve on-site issues, and maintain project schedules.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist in developing work procedures and SWMS

• Plan and organise labour, plant, equipment, and materials in line with program and budget

• Monitor site activities to ensure compliance with safety, quality, and environmental standards

• Conduct and document site pre-starts and safety inspections

• Manage safety incidents in conjunction with Operations and WHS Managers

• Supervise works through regular site inspections

• Coordinate and manage subcontractors

• Track productivity against budget and implement improvements where required

• Identify variations or delays and report promptly

• Build and maintain strong client relationships

Additional Duties

• Review subcontractor workmanship and ensure quality standards are met

• Direct rework where required

• Report completed works to the Operations Manager

Requirements

Mandatory

• Permanent work rights with no restrictions

• Current Driver’s Licence

• White Card

• Own transport (negotiable)

• Certificate I–III in Carpentry

• Current NSW Police Check

• Working with Children Check

Desirable (but not essential)

• Working at Heights

• EWP Licence (>11m)

• Confined Space

• First Aid & CPR

• Asbestos Removal Certification
