North Coast Law
About the role
Commission-Based Position | Flexible Hours | Wills, Estates & Succession Law | Sunshine Coast
North Coast Law is a boutique Sunshine Coast law firm with offices in Palmwoods, Beerwah and Pomona. We practise across succession law, property and commercial law, and family law.
We are seeking an experienced solicitor with a current unrestricted Queensland practising certificate and experience in wills, estates and succession planning to join our team on a commission-based basis.
This opportunity would suit a solicitor who values flexibility, autonomy and work-life balance, and who would like to further develop their succession law practice without the commitments of a traditional full-time salaried position.
The Opportunity
The successful applicant will primarily work in wills, estate planning and deceased estate matters, with the opportunity to service existing firm referrals while also developing the firm’s client base.
The role is particularly suited to an experienced practitioner (minimum 2 years’ post-admission experience, including at least 12 months’ experience in wills, estates and succession planning) who can confidently manage files with a high degree of independence and provide a professional, empathetic and commercially minded service to clients.
Work arrangements and hours can be negotiated to suit the successful applicant. There is scope for the role to be undertaken on a part-time or flexible basis, depending on the applicant's circumstances and the needs of the practice, and provided you have some availability to attend our Palmwoods and Beerwah offices to meet with clients for face-to-face appointments as required.
Key Responsibilities
• Advising clients in relation to estate planning and succession planning
• Preparing straightforward and complex wills
• Preparing enduring powers of attorney and related estate planning documents
• Advising on testamentary trusts, asset protection and succession structures where appropriate
• Advising and assisting with deceased estate administration
• Advising in relation to estate and succession disputes
• Managing client relationships and files from initial consultation through to completion
• Working collaboratively with the firm's existing team and referring matters to other areas of the practice where appropriate
• Maintaining accurate, compliant and paperless files and managing your own administrative requirements with appropriate support from the firm
About You
We are looking for an experienced solicitor who:
• Holds a current unrestricted Queensland practising certificate
• Has demonstrated experience in wills, estates and/or succession planning
• Is confident conducting client consultations and managing matters with minimal supervision
• Has excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to deal sensitively with clients in often complex and personal circumstances
• Is organised, efficient and comfortable working autonomously
• Is confident using technology and working in a paperless office environment
• Takes pride in providing high-quality legal work and excellent client service
• Is willing to work collaboratively with our close-knit team
Some experience in property and/or commercial law would also be highly regarded but is not essential.
Please note: this is a succession law role and does not involve family law work.
Why Join North Coast Law?
• Commission-based remuneration with no traditional billable-hours target and the opportunity to earn commission based on the fees receipted from matters you manage
• Flexible working arrangements and hours
• Ability to work around family, childcare or other commitments
• Supportive and collaborative boutique firm environment
• Established offices and infrastructure across the Sunshine Coast
• Opportunity to further develop your expertise in wills, estates and succession planning
• Autonomy without being completely on your own
• A genuine opportunity for an experienced solicitor who wants greater flexibility than a traditional employed position
Who Might This Role Suit?
This opportunity may be particularly attractive to:
• An experienced succession lawyer seeking greater flexibility and autonomy
• A solicitor returning to practice after a career break
• A working parent looking to structure their legal practice around family commitments
• A solicitor transitioning towards semi-retirement
If you are an experienced solicitor with a current Queensland practising certificate and a background in wills, estates or succession planning, we would love to hear from you.
To apply, please send your resume and cover letter to Tracey Taylor at North Coast Law, Palmwoods Office: ••••@nclaw.com.au.
Please note: This is a commission-based position. The commission structure and working arrangements will be discussed with suitable applicants.
Please, no recruitment agencies at this time. Only applicants shortlisted for interview will be contacted.
