CBC Fremantle
About the role
CBC Fremantle is a Catholic school in the Edmund Rice tradition for boys in Years 7-12. Founded by the Christian Brothers in 1901, the College has served the local Fremantle community for over a century helping families to develop boys who continually strive for excellence and who exhibit Catholic Leadership in their quest to establish a more just and peaceful society.
The College seeks to assist in the spiritual, academic, cultural, physical and emotional development of boys while acknowledging the primary role of the family as educator. As such, the College encourages its students to rigorously pursue excellence in all dimensions of their lives and to become leaders within their community through the active expression of their faith.
The Head of Languages is expected to work cooperatively with the Deputy Principal – Teaching and Learning, other members of the Academic Board and language teachers to achieve positive outcomes for students.
Key Responsibilities
The successful applicant will:
Be prepared to work closely with the Principal and staff to ensure that CBC Fremantle authentically reflects the mission of a Catholic school in the Edmund Rice Tradition.
Undertake ongoing formation with Edmund Rice Education Australia (EREA) as required by the College.
Be an active and contributing member of the College Academic Board.
Provide clear and competent leadership for all teachers of Italian at the College.
Plan and deliver effective learning programs, in line with SCSA requirements and best practice for boys’ education.
Develop and create teaching and assessment materials for the department.
Organising the Italy tour, Italian excursions and Italian Camp.
Designing and facilitating the Exchange Student Program.
Coordination and overseeing of the Language Assistant Program.
Compiling the annual budget for the Italian department.
Preparing the annual report for Italian.
Organising the Italian activities for English and Language week.
Coordinating the annual Festa Italiana.
Being the initial point of contact for SCSA e.g. small group moderation, Year 11 ATAR enrolment applications, etc.
Conduct regular meetings of Languages Learning Area staff.
Undertake any other duties as reasonably required by the Principal.
Key Selection Criteria
The successful applicant will:
Demonstrate an understanding of the charism of Blessed Edmund Rice as articulated in the Charter of Catholic Schools in the Edmund Rice Tradition.
Give witness to their membership of a Catholic community through their attitudes, actions and practice.
Possess or be willing to complete all of the requirements for Accreditation to Teach in a Catholic School.
Be an outstanding educator with a vision for providing the best education for all students at the College.
Teach Year 11 and Year 12 ATAR Italian.
Model best practice in differentiating curriculum.
Be willing to become an active member of the CBC Fremantle community with a strong commitment to promoting and supporting the varied aspects of College life.
Clearly exhibit leadership characteristics including competence, intrinsic motivation, vision, integrity and commitment to continued improvement.
Have well developed written and oral communication skills.
Have excellent interpersonal skills.
Be able to work cooperatively as part of a team.
Position Details
Commencing 1 January 2027.
0.2 Time Allowance.
A Level 1 monetary allowance is applicable to this position.
