Badge & Promotional Products Production Operator: Pathway to Coordinator Role

Location: Thomastown, Melbourne VIC
Type: Casual, 3-5 days per week (weekdays only, standard business hours)
Pay: $33.05 per hour + Superannuation

We're an established, Australian-made promotional badge and name badge manufacturer, supplying schools, businesses, health services, national brands and franchises, government, tourism and events. Our core products are button badges, name badges, and souvenir fridge magnets. We're a growth-focused small business, and we've just moved into a newly custom-fitted office and workshop in Thomastown.

We're looking for a motivated, reliable production team member to join our small, friendly team. This role is hands-on from day one, learning our products and processes on the floor. For the right person, it also offers a genuine pathway. As you build product knowledge and experience over your first year or so, there's an opportunity to grow into a Production Coordinator role, acting as the conduit between our customers and the production floor, liaising directly with customers on orders and proofs while also directing day-to-day production work. This isn't guaranteed, since it depends on fit, aptitude and interest, but if that progression appeals to you, we'd love to hear it in your application.

We want someone who takes real pride in a job well done, who gets genuine satisfaction from working efficiently, keeping quality high, and seeing an order through from start to finish. Some days that means putting your head down and focusing on a big run. Other days it means pitching in wherever the team needs a hand. We want someone who can do both, communicate clearly with the rest of the team, and adjust to what the day actually requires.

Duties will include:

• Operation of electric badge pressing machines (training provided; you'll be producing a minimum of 15 badges per minute)

• Finishing work (applying pins and magnetic fasteners to badges, applying magnetic backings to fridge magnets, and packing)

• Operation of UV printing machine

• Application of epoxy resin to name badges

• Operation of laser cutter and engraver

• Light cleaning and general support duties as directed

Over time, and if suited: growing into a Production Coordinator role, liaising with customers on orders and proofs and directing day-to-day production work, while continuing to pitch in on the floor as needed.

What the role involves physically:

Light to medium physical effort with a high level of manual dexterity. Occasional medium lifting (up to 20kg). You'll need to be comfortable standing and/or sitting for extended periods, and able to maintain concentration and attention to detail to meet daily production quotas and deadlines.

• No experience necessary, full training provided

• Flexibility in work hours when required

• Ability to work well in a team with minimum supervision

• Good literacy and numeracy skills

Excellent written and verbal English language skills, particularly important given the customer liaison and production coordination this role can lead to.

A can-do attitude, and, for those interested in the longer-term pathway, an interest in eventually liaising with customers and helping coordinate production.
