About the role
Surf Coast Signage is a family-run signage fabrication and installation business on the Surf Coast, producing everything from vehicle graphics and shopfront signage to large-format banners and site signage for local businesses. We're looking for an experienced Print & Finishing Operator to run our production floor, involving printing, cutting, laminating and finishing jobs to a high standard, with the confidence to work independently once trained on our systems.
This is a hands-on production role. You'll be trusted to manage the day-to-day print queue, keep jobs moving, and flag anything that needs attention, without needing to be closely supervised.
This role also offers the opportunity to grow with the business and take on greater responsibility over time for the right person, whether that's developing further technical skills, taking ownership of more of the production process, or stepping into a broader operational role as the business grows.
Key responsibilities
Operate wide-format/digital printers to produce signage, vehicle graphics and print collateral to specification
Carry out finishing work — cutting, laminating, mounting, trimming and weeding — to a consistently high standard
Read and interpret job specifications and priorities from our job management system
Manage the production queue independently, prioritising jobs and meeting deadlines with minimal supervision
Perform quality checks on finished work before it leaves the workshop
Carry out routine printer maintenance and basic troubleshooting; flag equipment issues promptly
Manage consumables and stock — inks, media and finishing materials — and flag reorder needs
Maintain a safe, clean and organised workshop in line with WHS requirements
Liaise on job priorities, timelines and any production issues
About you
Demonstrated industry experience operating digital/wide-format printers (e.g. latex, solvent or UV print systems)
Solid understanding of print finishing techniques, substrates and materials used in signage production
Proven ability to work independently and use good judgement on the production floor
Strong attention to detail and pride in the quality of finished work
Reliable, punctual and comfortable managing your own workload once across our systems
Physically capable of standing for extended periods and handling signage materials and stock
Current driver's license
Experience with job management software (nice to have)
Forklift license (nice to have)
Experience with vehicle wrap installation or other on-site installation work (nice to have)
Nice to have (but not essential)
Forklift license
Experience with job management software
Experience with vehicle wrap installation or other on-site installation work
Hours & flexibility
We're ideally looking for a part-time (0.6) arrangement, with days and hours to be discussed and agreed with the right candidate. We'd also consider a full-time arrangement for someone who's a strong fit for the role.
Compensation note
This role sits within Level 4 of the Graphic Arts, Printing and Publishing Award 2020 (MA000026), which covers printing, finishing and related production work. We're offering a rate 10% above the award minimum in recognition of the experience and independence this role requires. If the successful candidate's skill set is closer to a more advanced classification, the rate would be reviewed accordingly.
Applications close 21 September, however we’ll be reviewing applications as they come in and may close the role early if we find the right person.
