ABOUT THE ROLE

We're looking for a WA trained Roof Carpenter with real leadership behind them to run one of our teams on residential work across the Perth metro area.

You'll lead a crew of four to five on new builds and renovations. Large scale work: wall framing, subfloor works, and stick and truss roofs. Everything from roof extensions on older homes through to complete stick frame new builds, single storey right through to three storey boutique homes.

That's your bread and butter and where we need you excellent. This is a first fix crew. Second fix is handled by our other teams, so you and your crew stay on the structural work.

WA roof framing is its own craft. The spans, the timber, the way it's done here to AS 1684. Plenty of blokes can stand a truss roof. We want someone who can cut one, and who's been doing it long enough that nothing on a roof surprises them anymore.

It's a crew of guns. We only hire good people. You get a work truck stocked with tools, a full support network behind you, and the authority to run your site properly.

Hours: Monday to Friday, generally 7:00am to 3:30pm on site, plus PAID travel time, plus overtime where a job requires it.

Location: All of our work is in the Perth metro area. Office and yard in Cockburn Central, sites right across the metro. No FIFO. No regional. No interstate. Home every night.

WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING

• Leading a crew of four to five carpenters and apprentices

• Setting the standard on stick and truss roofs, wall framing and subfloors

• Running safe, clean, organised sites on large scale builds

• Planning daily tasks and managing labour efficiently

• Delivering your crew's first fix work to B&P standards

• Communicating progress and issues with management

• Supporting apprentices and building a strong crew culture

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR

This is a senior role. We're being specific because we'd rather talk to five right people than fifty.

You must have:

• WA trained roof carpenter, or extensive experience with WA roof framing practices

• Minimum 8 years carpentry experience

• Proven experience leading a crew, as a Team Leader, 2IC, Leading Hand or running your own jobs

• Expert stick and truss roof framing, wall framing and subfloor works

• Deep working knowledge of AS 1684

• Carpentry Trade Certificate (Cert III in Carpentry or equivalent)

• Ability to read and interpret plans

• White Card

• Valid driver's licence

You'll also bring:

Ideally you've also run your own carpentry business, and you're ready to hand the paperwork to someone else.

A NOTE ON CULTURE

As a Team Leader you set the culture on your site. Your crew helps each other before they're asked. Your apprentices get backed and taught. Your site gets left right, because the next crew has to work there too.

We can teach programming and job planning. We can't teach someone to care about the people around them. That's not a poster in our office, it's how we hire.

We've graduated 10 apprentices into qualified tradesmen, stepped 15 tradesmen up into Team Leaders over the last eight years, and 10 of our people have gone on to start small businesses of their own. You don't get a record like that by holding people back.

ABOUT B & P CARPENTRY

B & P Carpentry started in 2017. Two Western Australian carpenters from Bunbury who went out on their own and wanted to do it properly. We've built it since on reliability, accountability, teamwork and respect.

That's taken us from a two-man crew to 25 full-time employees, and we're just getting started.
