Help Deliver an Exciting New Program in the Hervey Bay and Bundaberg Region

This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a collaborative and community-focused team delivering an innovative overdose prevention program across the Hervey Bay and Bundaberg region. Working as part of this initiative, you will contribute to the delivery of a program designed to improve health outcomes and strengthen overdose prevention and response across the region.

The program will deliver

• Contribute to the development of a regional overdose prevention plan informed by community consultation and engagement

• A holistic suite of interventions including; Mobile Needle and Syringe Program (NSP), harm reduction-based brief interventions and education, Blood Borne Virus (BBV) and Sexually Transmissible Infection (STI) screening, treatment support and case management, prison transition support, and referral and advocacy for access to outpatient counselling, residential rehabilitation, opioid substitution treatment, and other support services

• Peer-led overdose education and Take-Home Naloxone training to individuals, families, and communities

• Integration of peerQNECT Peer Workers within discharge and transition pathways to strengthen continuity of care and reduce overdose risk following discharge from health and community services

• Lived and living experience of alcohol and other drug use and recovery is recognised as a specialised professional capability that is essential to the integrity, quality, and impact of this project

QuIHN and QuIVAA are partnering to deliver an innovative overdose prevention program across the Hervey Bay and Bundaberg region. The program aims to reduce overdose-related harm, strengthen community connections, and improve access to integrated health and support services.

This initiative represents an exciting opportunity to be part of a project that will enhance service integration, strengthen community partnerships, and support people at risk of overdose throughout the Hervey Bay and Bundaberg region.

We are aiming to commence the project in the second half of September 2026.

The roles

Strategy Officer                        SCHADS Level 6                                    30 hours per week

This role will lead the development of a Regional Overdose Prevention Strategy for the Hervey Bay and Bundaberg region. Working closely with key stakeholders, you will facilitate consultation, collaboration, and strategic planning to strengthen overdose prevention and response capacity.

The role will also support greater integration between Hospital and Health Services, community health providers, Needle and Syringe Programs (NSPs), Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisations (ACCHOs), and peer networks, while assisting to embed peerQNECT Peer Workers within discharge and transition pathways.

Harm Reduction Training Lead       SCHADS Level 5                      30 hours per week

This role will design and deliver structured peer-led overdose education and Take-Home Naloxone (THN) training across Hospital Health Services, community settings and outreach settings.

Additionally as part of the outreach harm reduction team you will contribute to the delivery of harm reduction initiatives, early intervention activities, and care navigation supports that improve access to services and reduce overdose-related harm.

Harm Reduction Coordinator         SCHADS Level 5                      30 hours per week

This role will establish, coordinate, and support the outreach harm reduction team delivering an integrated Alcohol and Other Drugs outreach service, including the mobile NSP, throughout the Hervey Bay and Bundaberg region.

You will oversee the delivery of harm reduction services, early intervention activities, and care navigation supports, while fostering strong partnerships with local stakeholders and community services.

Harm Reduction Worker                    SCHADS Level 4                      30 hour per week

Working closely with the Harm Reduction Coordinator, this position will support the delivery of an integrated Alcohol and Other Drugs outreach service across the region, including the mobile NSP.

You will assist with harm reduction initiatives, community engagement, early intervention activities, and care navigation to improve access to health and support services.

NSP Worker                                              SCHADS Level 2                      Casual

Working as part of the Harm Reduction team, the NSP Worker will provide outreach Needle and Syringe Program services in accordance with Queensland Needle and Syringe Program guidelines and QuIHN policies and procedures.
