Operational Contract Officer

Our client is a high-profile NSW government agency.
We are currently seeking three experienced Operational Contract Officers to join a newly established team supporting operational contracts and contractor claims across NSW.

The team has been established to manage a significant increase in contractor claims linked to changes in fuel prices. With a substantial backlog across approximately 10–15 panels and contracts, the team is looking for experienced people who can assess information, apply clear criteria and process claims accurately and efficiently.

This is a fast-paced, high-volume role suited to someone who is comfortable working with data, contracts, claims and established processes.

Role Description:
As an Operational Contract Officer, you will support the review and validation of contractor claims. You will assess information against agreed criteria, check that claims are accurate and identify any issues that require further attention.
You will work closely with the wider team to help clear the current backlog while maintaining accuracy and meeting deadlines.

You don't need to have worked in this exact type of role before. Experience processing claims or working with contracts and applying eligibility criteria is highly relevant. Training will be provided on the specific process and systems.

Responsibilities:

• Claim assessment: Review and process contractor claims against agreed criteria and approved methodologies
• Validation: Check information, rates and supporting data to ensure claims have been calculated correctly
• Data and systems: Work with relevant systems and validation tools to process a high volume of information accurately
• Issue identification: Identify discrepancies, missing information or claims requiring further review
• Contract support: Apply an understanding of contracts, eligibility requirements and agreed processes
• Records and reporting: Maintain accurate records and provide information to support reporting and decision making
• Correspondence: Assist with preparing supplier communications and other contract-related documentation
• Team collaboration: Work closely with Contract Officers, Contract Administrators and the wider team to meet deadlines
• Continuous improvement: Contribute ideas and practical improvements as the new team develops its processes

Skills and Experience:

• Experience in contract administration, claims processing, procurement, commercial support or a similar environment
• Experience reviewing information against defined criteria or eligibility requirements
• Strong attention to detail and ability to identify discrepancies
• Comfortable working with data, spreadsheets and business systems
• Ability to manage a high volume of work while maintaining accuracy
• Strong organisational skills and ability to meet tight deadlines
• Good written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to work collaboratively in a newly established and changing environment
• Government experience is highly desirable but not essential
• A practical, positive approach and strong work ethic

This is not an entry-level role. We are looking for experienced professionals who can understand the work quickly and contribute to the team from the outset.
Contract Details:

• 3 positions available
• Location: Sydney - Hybrid
• Office: Milsons Point Tuesday and Wednesday; Parramatta Thursday
• Work from home: Generally Monday and Friday
• Contract: ASAP to  December 2026+Potential Extension
• Rate: $350 - $500 per day + super
• Start: ASAP, ideally within 1–2 weeks
