Australind Water Boring and Civil
About the role
Trainee Driller / Offsider - Water Bore Drilling
Picton East (Bunbury) & South West WA | Full-time, permanent | Local work — NOT FIFO
Read this ad in full before applying. It'll save us both time.
Australind Water Boring & Civil (AWBC) drills water bores and builds the pump systems that go down them. We're a founder-led South West business running two rigs out of Picton East, just outside Bunbury. We're after a Trainee Driller / Offsider to join the crew and learn the trade from the ground up.
Here's the part most people miss: fewer than 600 people in the whole state hold a water well driller qualification. It's a Certificate III trade with formal ADIA licensing behind it — a real ticket, real standing, and work that isn't going anywhere. Qualify, and you're one of a very small number of people in WA who can do this, with skills that stay in demand.
First, what this job is NOT
It is not FIFO. No rosters, no airports, no camps.
It is not a foot in the door to the mines. If you're using this as a stepping stone to a mine site, don't apply — you'll be gone in six months and we'll both have wasted our time.
What it actually is
Local, hands-on, day-work drilling across the South West. Home most nights. A formal, paid traineeship leading to a Certificate III and ADIA drilling licences — a recognised qualification held by fewer than 600 people in the state. If you'd rather build a scarce, respected skill close to home than chase a roster, keep reading.
What you'll be doing
Offsiding for our drillers — you're their right hand on the rig
Rigging up and down, handling rods and casing, mixing drilling fluids
Running and maintaining plant, trucks and gear (we'll teach you)
Keeping the rig and site clean, orderly and safe — every day, no shortcuts
General site labour, loading and unloading
Working through a structured traineeship toward your Cert III and ADIA tickets
Who we're after — it's a trainee role, so attitude beats experience
You show up on time, every day
You're fit and genuinely happy doing hard, dirty, outdoor work in all weather
You look after equipment like it's your own
You take direction and actually want to learn a trade
You live in the South West — or you're genuinely relocating. This is not a temporary gig.
Handy to have: any plant, machinery, mechanical, farm or construction background
What you need to start — and that's genuinely it
A current C-class driver's licence
Ability to pass a pre-employment drug & alcohol test
The right attitude
Every other ticket and qualification — White Card, machinery competencies, your Cert III and ADIA licences — you earn on the job, paid, through the traineeship. We invest in the right person.
What you get
A formal, paid pathway to a recognised drilling qualification held by fewer than 600 people in WA — the real reason to take this job
Full-time, permanent, local work — home most nights
A trade you can build a life on, in a field where qualified people are genuinely scarce
A tight crew and a founder who's built and run water infrastructure at every scale, and who looks after his people and his gear
How to apply — read this bit
Apply through Seek. In your application, answer one question: why local water bore drilling — and not a mine site — is the career you actually want. Applications that don't address it won't be shortlisted. That's how we know you read the ad.
Shortlisted candidates only will be invited to book an interview time directly. We're not chasing volume — we're after the right person.
