Butler McDermott Lawyers has served the Sunshine Coast and greater region for over 100 years, with proven experience across almost all facets of law. We act for clients from our Nambour and Birtinya offices, appearing regularly in the Magistrates, District and Supreme Courts.

About the role

We are seeking a Criminal Lawyer to join our criminal law team. You will carry your own caseload from first conference through to hearing, with support from senior practitioners who are genuinely invested in your development.

You will be based across both our Birtinya and Nambour offices, with the flexibility to work from home part of each week.

What you'll do

• Manage a varied criminal defence caseload — traffic, drug, property, domestic violence and indictable matters

• Appear in the Magistrates Court and instruct Counsel in higher courts

• Prepare briefs, submissions and sentencing material

• Build and maintain client and referrer relationships across the Sunshine Coast

About you

• Admitted as a solicitor in Queensland (or eligible for admission) and hold, or be eligible for, a current practising certificate

• [1–5]+ years' post-admission experience in criminal law — we will also consider strong junior applicants with clear criminal law exposure

• Confident advocate, or ready to be

• Excellent written and verbal communication, and sound judgement under pressure

• Current driver's licence and willingness to work across both offices
