About the Role
Work with a committed local government team in a supportive council culture. Lead meaningful change across development and regulatory services. The council is focused on continuous improvement and delivering sustainable services to the community. You'll have the opportunity to shape strategic direction, drive service excellence, and make a real impact.
Lead our Development, Compliance and Property Management services across the shire. You'll manage a team of four (Compliance Supervisor, Plumbing/Building Inspector, Town Planner and Senior Land/Lease Coordinator) and oversee strategic planning, building and regulatory compliance, and council property assets. Report to the Director of Council Services.
Key Responsibilities
Team Leadership - Manage, mentor and maximise performance of your team across development assessment, compliance and land management. Ensure best practice standards and professional development.
Statutory Compliance & Enforcement - Investigate and enforce provisions of council local laws, planning schemes, and development approvals. Manage statutory notices, ensure compliance with the Local Government Act, and administer Acts relating to Planning, Building, Plumbing, Animals Management and Property Management.
Property & Asset Management - Manage council property maintenance and services for all council buildings, land and reserves. Develop and implement asset management systems, risk management processes and land management plans.
Policy & Process Development - Develop, document and review practices, procedures and policies. Monitor legislative changes and emerging trends. Coordinate continuous improvement across the section.
Financial & Strategic Management - Prepare and monitor the section budget. Develop and implement strategic, corporate and operational plans. Prepare reports to council and represent council in government, business and community forums.
What We're Looking For
Essential Qualifications
Tertiary qualification in planning, regulatory compliance, public administration or equivalent professional experience
Current Queensland C class driver's licence
Essential Experience & Skills
Demonstrated strategic leadership in a medium to large organisation
Sound knowledge of statutory requirements and demonstrated experience interpreting legislation
High level interpersonal, written and oral communication skills
Strong negotiation, conflict management, analytical and problem-solving abilities
High level computer literacy and keyboard skills
Excellent customer service skills and proven ability to meet performance objectives
Ability to build positive and effective partnerships
Desirable
Local government experience
Post-graduate qualifications in property management or building certification
Corporate membership with the Planning Institute of Australia
Queensland General Safety Induction (Construction Industry) Certification
