About the roleThis is an exciting opportunity to lead Wyndham’s Events team and help shape how one of Victoria’s fastest growing communities comes together, celebrates and experiences its municipality.
Reporting to the Coordinator Events & Placemaking, you will lead the Events service, including the planning and delivery of Council events and festivals, community and organisational event support, and the permitting of Council open spaces for community events and filming.
You will provide strong people leadership while also helping shape the future direction of the service through implementation of Council’s Festivals and Events Framework, event evaluation, continuous improvement and strategic advice.
Working across Council and with community, government, industry and event partners, you will build strong relationships and provide trusted advice on event delivery, governance, safety, investment and future opportunities.This role suits someone who can balance strategic thinking with practical delivery. You will be comfortable leading a team, managing complex event environments, improving systems and processes, and stepping into the detail when needed.
As events regularly occur outside standard business hours, flexibility to work evenings, weekends and public holidays will be required.
What your day will look likeLead, support and develop the Events team, setting priorities, allocating resources and fostering a positive, accountable and collaborative team culture.Lead the planning, development and delivery of Council events and festivals across Wyndham.Oversee the permitting of Council open spaces for community events and filming, supporting a consistent and responsive service.Lead implementation of Council’s Festivals and Events Framework and associated service planning, evaluation and continuous improvement initiatives.Build strong partnerships across Council, community, government, industry and the broader events sector.Provide specialist event advice and recommendations to management and Council, including input into strategies, policies, capital works, public space and infrastructure projects.Lead evaluation of Council’s events portfolio using community feedback, performance data and return on investment measures to inform future priorities and investment.Provide leadership and oversight of event governance, safety, risk and compliance across Council delivered events and the broader Events service.Identify opportunities to improve systems, processes and ways of working, while encouraging innovation across the team.
What you will bringExtensive experience leading and managing teams to deliver successful event programs and organisational outcomes.Strong experience in the planning and delivery of major events and festivals.Strong stakeholder management and partnership skills, with the ability to work effectively across community, government, industry and complex organisational environments.Demonstrated experience providing strategic event advice and contributing to service planning, policy, evaluation and continuous improvement.Demonstrated knowledge and experience in event governance, risk, safety and compliance.Strong leadership and decision-making skills, including the ability to operate confidently in complex or challenging situations.Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to prepare high-quality advice, reports and recommendations in a politically aware environment.Strong organisational and problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities and allocate resources effectively.A degree or diploma in Events, Arts Management or another relevant discipline with several years of relevant experience, or lesser formal qualifications combined with extensive relevant experience.
