Assistant Director

The International Division is responsible for international education policy and high-profile initiatives that support the sustainable development and growth of Australia’s international education sector. 

Working across the department, other Australian Government agencies, state and territory governments, education providers and partner governments, the division delivers programs and policies that support international mobility, the global exchange of knowledge, and position Australia as a partner of choice for international collaboration. 

As an Assistant Director within the Qualifications Recognition Team, you will support this work through policy advice and strategic engagement on the recognition of qualifications and qualifications frameworks, helping to position Australia as a regional and global leader in the field and supporting better understanding and recognition of the Australian education system and qualifications internationally. You will contribute through engagement in key multilateral fora, including the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), as well as through bilateral engagement with key education partners, and support stakeholders to assess foreign qualifications in Australia, informed by UNESCO conventions.

In these roles, you will be responsible for the following:

• Leading discussions and negotiations, delivering presentations and/or providing strategic policy advice to a wide range of domestic and international stakeholders, including on complex, technical and sensitive matters. 
• Fostering productive working relationships with domestic and international stakeholders and representing the department in bilateral and multilateral fora.
• Leading strategic projects, anticipating and managing issues and risks, monitoring and evaluating project performance.
• Researching and analysing overseas qualifications, education, training, and quality assurance systems and qualifications frameworks, and examining international legal treaties and other agreements or arrangements. 
• Supervising staff and developing and implementing work plans, including managing workflows and priorities and ensuring the delivery of quality outcomes.

• Citizenship: Under section 22(8) of the Public Service Act 1999, employees must be Australian citizens to be employed in the APS unless the Agency delegate has agreed, in writing.
• Security Clearance: This is a designated security assessed position. The successful candidate will have the ability to obtain and maintain the required security clearance.
