JOHNEX explosives
About the role
About JOHNEX
JOHNEX explosives is an Australian explosives manufacturer and service provider supporting customers across the resources and civil sectors.
We operate in a specialised and highly regulated industry where safety, quality, compliance and practical improvement are central to how we work.
We are seeking an organised and dependable SHEQ Coordinator to join our team at our Belmont Head Office.
About the role
Reporting to the SHEQ Manager, the SHEQ Coordinator will support the effective day-to-day delivery of JOHNEX’s Safety, Health, Environmental and Quality function.
This is a hands-on coordination role focused on keeping SHEQ systems, documents, records, schedules and actions accurate, organised and progressing. You will work closely with the SHEQ Manager and other areas of the business to support operational, compliance and regulatory priorities.
The position would suit someone who enjoys bringing structure to a busy function, takes pride in accurate work and is comfortable following up people to ensure actions are completed.
The role is based at our Belmont Head Office and includes regular visits to JOHNEX sites and includes interstate travel.
Typical responsibilities
Coordinate SHEQ documentation and administration, ensuring records, registers, systems and scheduled activities remain current and well organised.
Maintain the SAFEX system, including entering and reviewing information, allocating actions as directed, monitoring due dates and following up action owners.
Coordinate document control activities, including formatting, numbering, version control, approval workflows, publication, review dates and archiving.
Maintain SHEQ registers, calendars and trackers for audits, inspections, corrective actions, risk assessments and document reviews.
Prepare correspondence, agendas, meeting packs, minutes, action lists and follow-up communications.
Coordinate internal and external audit administration, including schedules, evidence requests, document packs, findings registers and corrective-action follow-up.
Prepare routine SHEQ reports, dashboards and trend summaries.
Support incident and hazard administration by collecting records, arranging meetings, maintaining investigation files and tracking corrective actions.
Coordinate SHEQ meetings, consultation activities, toolbox information and supporting records.
Assist with the preparation and submission of regulator, licence, ISO and customer documentation.
Maintain relevant training and competency records and coordinate bookings, reminders and attendance documentation.
Assist with site visits, workshops and continuous improvement projects.
Conduct routine workplace inspections and verification activities within your training and competence.
Escalate technical, regulatory and higher-risk matters to the SHEQ Manager.
What we’re looking for
Demonstrated experience in administration, coordination, document control, compliance or management-system support.
Exceptional organisation, attention to detail and follow-up skills.
Strong written communication and document-formatting skills.
Confidence working with managers and action owners to obtain information and progress outstanding actions.
Sound judgement and an understanding of when matters need to be escalated.
A reliable and accountable approach, with the ability to work with limited supervision.
Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint and Teams.
A willingness to learn technical terminology, regulatory processes and JOHNEX systems.
A current driver’s licence and the ability to undertake regular site visits and some interstate travel.
Experience with incident or action-tracking systems, ISO 9001, ISO 14001 or ISO 45001 will be well regarded.
Previous exposure to manufacturing, dangerous goods, mining or another regulated industry would be beneficial but is not essential. Candidates with strong transferable coordination and administrative skills are encouraged to apply.
Why join JOHNEX?
A permanent, full-time role based at our Belmont Head Office.
Varied work across safety, environment, quality and compliance.
Structured learning in JOHNEX systems, ISO management systems and the explosives industry.
Regular operational exposure through visits to JOHNEX sites.
The opportunity to build lasting specialist knowledge in a highly regulated Australian business.
A supportive team environment where organisation, reliability and practical improvement are valued.
