Project Manager - Defence Capability

The role
Mayport is an integrated Defence consulting firm, combining specialist expertise across project management, commercial advisory and logistics services. Our team has deep experience supporting the delivery of high-value, strategically significant Defence projects.
Due to significant growth, opportunities exist for multiple senior project managers to join our Canberra team. You will work alongside clients within the Department of Defence on high-profile space, satellite communications and broader capability acquisition and delivery programs.
What you'll do
Your role will be varied and may include:
- leading and supporting Defence capability projects to achieve approved scope, schedule, budget and risk objectives;- developing and maintaining project management plans, integrated schedules, budget forecasts and performance reporting;- managing project milestones, governance and assurance requirements, risks, issues and dependencies;- preparing recommendations, business cases, briefs, reports and decision-support material for senior leadership;- coordinating multidisciplinary teams and stakeholders across Defence, industry and international partners;- supporting acquisition, integration, testing, acceptance and transition-to-service activities;- supporting capability development, industry engagement, approaches to market and risk-reduction activities where required; and- building strong client relationships and representing Mayport in workshops, planning forums and governance meetings.
What you'll bring
You will be a great fit if you have:
- demonstrated senior project or program management experience, ideally within the Department of Defence or another Commonwealth agency;- a strong understanding of Defence capability acquisition, delivery and sustainment environments;- proven experience managing schedules, budgets, risks, governance and project reporting;- the ability to communicate with influence and build effective relationships across complex stakeholder groups;- a proactive, solutions-focused approach and the ability to work independently in a client-facing role;- relevant tertiary or project management qualifications, or equivalent demonstrated experience;- Australian citizenship and an active AGSVA security clearance, or the ability to reinstate a previously held clearance; and- the ability to work on site at Defence premises in Canberra.
Experience in space, SATCOM, ICT or network capability projects, the Defence capability lifecycle, FIC management or Defence procurement will be highly regarded.
