Service Manager – Automotive Workshop

A1 Mechanical is looking for an experienced Service Manager who can take ownership of the daily operation of our workshop.

This is a senior, hands-on role requiring someone who is independent, commercially aware and accountable for results. We are not looking for someone who needs to be continually managed or told what needs to happen next.

We need someone who can walk into the workshop, understand what needs to be done, organise the team, keep work moving and take responsibility for the outcome.

YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES You will take ownership of:

Daily workshop scheduling and workflow Managing technician workloads and productivity.

Customer bookings and communication Quoting, approvals and additional work Parts ordering and coordination Ensuring all identified work is quoted and presented to customers Monitoring jobs against allocated labour times

Ensuring job cards and inspections are completed correctly

Invoicing and vehicle handover Following up outstanding quotes and recommendations

Resolving customer and workshop issues

Maintaining workshop standards and accountability

Keeping the owner informed without requiring the owner to manage the day-to-day operation

WHAT WE EXPECT You must be:

Experienced – You understand how a successful automotive workshop operates.

Independent – You can make decisions, prioritise and keep the day moving without constant direction.

Accountable – If something is missed, delayed or goes wrong, you take ownership and resolve it.

Commercially aware – You understand that productivity, labour recovery, parts margins and additional work matter.

Organised – You can manage technicians, customers, parts and changing priorities without losing control of the day.

Customer focused – You can confidently explain repairs, maintenance and recommendations without simply selling on price.

Previous experience as an Automotive Service Manager, Senior Service Advisor or Workshop Controller is strongly preferred.

Strong automotive knowledge is essential.

THE OPPORTUNITY A1 Mechanical is an independent Cairns workshop servicing passenger vehicles, 4WDs and fleet customers.

We are strengthening our systems and team and are looking for someone capable of becoming a key person within the business.

There is genuine responsibility in this position.

Remuneration will reflect experience and demonstrated capability.
