The Role

The ABC is looking for a Operations Specialist (Editor) to produce and edit high-quality video, audio and online content. You'll use your editorial instincts to craft engaging, audience-focused journalism across news, politics and current affairs.

The Job

• Edit high-quality News and Current Affairs content for television and digital platforms.
• Bring strong storytelling, pacing and political knowledge to shape engaging stories.
• Meet tight deadlines while working independently and collaboratively.
• Stay current with editing technology, industry trends and storytelling techniques.
• Communicate clearly, respond professionally to feedback and support team development.
• Reflect the diversity of the community in story selection and treatment.
• Maintain editing equipment, troubleshoot faults and follow reporting procedures.

About You

You'll have: 

• Extensive News and Current Affairs editing experience with strong operational, technical, and aesthetic expertise.
• Creativity in elevating stories through pace, structure, and visual storytelling, especially in longer-form content.
• Deep interest in politics and current affairs, with sound judgement to add depth and context to edits.
• Skilled across all operational duties, including editing, News Exchange, and file-based syndication.
• Calm and effective under pressure, consistently meeting tight deadlines.
• Strong communication, time management, and problem-solving skills.
• Proven editorial, creative, and technical judgement, working independently and in teams.
• Excellent interpersonal skills; builds relationships across diverse teams and fosters team spirit.
• Experience managing, training, and developing staff.
• Passionate about telling stories that reflect Australia’s diversity.
