EEAI Youth Support Worker

Marra Worra Worra Aboriginal Corporation (MWWAC) is seeking an EEAI Youth Support Worker to join our Education, Engagement and Attainment Initiative team in Fitzroy Crossing. This role provides practical, hands-on support to young people and families to encourage engagement in education, wellbeing and community activities.

ABOUT US

Marra Worra Worra Aboriginal Corporation was established in the late 1970s by the people of the Fitzroy Valley and is the largest and oldest Aboriginal resource agency in the Kimberley.  The primary objective of Marra Worra Worra is to work with Bunuba, Gooniyandi, Wangkatjungka, Walmajarri and Nyikina groups in the Fitzroy Valley to strengthen culture, support community and create sustainable employment solutions.

THE ROLE

The EEAI Youth Support Worker reports to the EEAI Coordinator and supports young people enrolled at Fitzroy Valley District High School to participate in education and community programs.

Key responsibilities include: 

• Supporting young people and facilities to engage in education and community programs.

• Providing one-on-one support to help young people overcome barriers to school attendance and participation.

• Transporting young people to and from school, EEAI activities and community events.

• Supporting classroom, engagement and community activities.

• Assisting with on-Country learning days and Two-Way Science programs

• Maintaining accurate records and contributing to program reporting and evaluation.

• Building positive relationships with young people, families, schools, community members and other stakeholders.

• Supporting culturally safe, trauma-informed and community-led approaches.

ABOUT YOU

We are looking for someone who is passionate about supporting young people and can build respectful and positive relationships with young people, families and the wider community.

Essential: 

• Experience supporting young people and families in education or community programs

• Demonstrated experience working with Aboriginal families and communities, preferably in the Fitzroy Valley or another remote community

• Strong cultural awareness and understanding of Aboriginal cultural protocols and community values

• Ability to work autonomously, manage your own workload and solve problems

• Current valid WA manual driver’s licence

• WA Working with Children Check

Desirable:

• Relevant qualification in Community Services, Youth Work, Education Support, Community Engagement or a related field

• Experience working and living in a remote community

• Knowledge of the social, educational and economic challenges experienced by Aboriginal communities in remote areas
