Total Sport And Floor
About the role
Total Sport & Floor, transitioning to Baseline Sport | Chirnside Park, VIC
Full-time permanent
Total Sport & Floor is currently transitioning to Baseline Sport as part of the Baseline Civil Group.
We’re the specialist sports construction arm of the group, delivering sports surfaces, indoor courts, padel facilities and associated civil works across Victoria and interstate.
Want to see the kind of work we do? Check us out at baselinesport.au and baselinecg.com.au
Baseline Sport is looking for an experienced, hands-on person to join our small team and become a key part of our growing sports construction business.
This isn't a standard labouring role, and we're not looking for someone who just wants to turn up, do the minimum and go home.
We're looking for someone who's spent time in a trade, knows their way around a construction site, takes pride in their work and is ready for something different.
You might be a carpenter, landscaper or experienced construction all-rounder who's tired of doing the same thing on the same site every day.
We'll teach you the specialist sports side of the job.
For the right person, the long-term opportunity is to become someone who can take ownership of projects and help us deliver them from start to finish.
What you'll be doingComing into summer, your main focus will be acrylic sports court surfacing.
You'll work alongside our experienced team surfacing tennis, netball and other outdoor sports courts across Melbourne. No previous sports surfacing experience is required — we'll teach you the trade.
You'll also work on our indoor timber sports flooring projects, where we supervise our timber flooring contractors before completing the line marking for basketball, netball, badminton, volleyball and other sports.
Across the year, the role will also include:
Sports court repairs and maintenance
Acrylic court preparation and surfacing
Sports line marking
Working alongside our Padel court installation teams
Assisting with and eventually supervising sports construction projects
General civil construction when required, including drainage, formwork, concrete pours and pavement preparation
No two weeks are necessarily the same.
Rather than spending months on one construction site doing the same task, you could be resurfacing a tennis court one week, line marking a new indoor basketball stadium the next, working on a Padel facility after that, then jumping onto one of our civil projects when required.
Who we're looking forTrade experience is highly regarded, particularly carpentry or landscaping, although we're open to people from other trades and construction backgrounds.
More important than your specific trade is your attitude.
We're looking for someone who:
Has several years of hands-on construction experience
Is practical, capable and comfortable using tools
Takes pride in producing high-quality finished work
Can think for themselves and solve problems on site
Is reliable and doesn't need full time supervision
Wants to learn specialist skills
Is willing to take on more responsibility as they develop
Wants to progress rather than remain in a labouring role
Is comfortable working both independently and as part of a small crew
You'll need a manual driver's licence, your own reliable vehicle to get to our Chirnside Park yard and be comfortable towing trailers.
An MR licence is highly regarded, but if you're the right person and don't have one, we'll help you get it.
Where you'll workOur yard is based in Chirnside Park.
You'll generally start around 6:00am, collect the work truck and head to site from there. Finish times vary depending on where we're working, but we're typically back at the yard around 4:00–4:30pm.
Most of our work is throughout metropolitan Melbourne, but you need to be comfortable travelling.
We occasionally undertake regional Victorian and interstate projects, with trips ranging from 2 days to up to 2-3 weeks. Accommodation and applicable allowances are provided.
And importantly: we don't expect you to sacrifice your weekends.
Even when we're away, we plan our work so our crew can get home for the weekend wherever possible.
Why Baseline Sport? We're a small, family-run business and we genuinely enjoy what we build.
Sports construction is different from a lot of construction work. At the end of a project, you don't just walk away from something that's going to be buried underground or hidden behind a wall.
You get to stand back and look at a finished tennis court, basketball stadium, netball facility or Padel venue that people are going to use and enjoy for years.
It's specialist work, it's varied, and there aren't many jobs where you'll get exposure to such a broad range of construction skills.
We're also not an old-school construction company that believes working every waking hour makes you a better employee.
We work hard while we're at work, but we also have lives outside it.
Most of our management team have young families themselves. We understand that things come up, we offer flexibility wherever we reasonably can, and we avoid weekend work like the plague.
In return, we expect our people to take ownership of their work, look after each other and give us a proper day's effort when they're here.
Where this role can goInitially, you'll be working closely with our management team while learning acrylic surfacing, indoor court line marking and the broader sports construction side of the business.
As your experience grows, so will your responsibility.
For the right person, we want this role to develop into someone who can eventually run sports installation projects and crews, coordinate subcontractors and materials, deal confidently with clients and site managers, and take ownership of delivering a quality finished job.
If you've spent the last few years on the tools and you're thinking there has to be something more interesting I could be doing with these skills, we'd like to hear from you.
