LGBTIQ+ Health Australia
About the role
LGBTIQ+ Health Australia (LHA) is the national peak health organisation in Australia for organisations and individuals that provide health-related programs, services and research focused on lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and intersex people and other sexuality, gender, and bodily diverse people and communities.
LHA works with legislators, policymakers, and service providers to help them understand and address the needs of LGBTIQ+ people and communities. We support LHA members to have a stronger policy voice and partner with researchers across the country on issues of LGBTIQ+ health and wellbeing.
As the Policy and Research Lead, you will play a key role in driving LHA's national policy, advocacy and research agenda. Working within the Policy, Research and Communications Team and reporting to the Director, Policy, Research and Communications, you will lead the delivery of LHA's Health Peak Activity Work Plan through the development of evidence informed policy, research and advocacy initiatives.
You will work collaboratively across LHA and with member organisations, governments, researchers, sector partners and LGBTIQ+ communities to identify emerging issues, develop policy positions, coordinate consultations and produce high-quality policy advice, submissions, discussion papers and other strategic resources.
The role requires excellent project management, stakeholder engagement and policy development skills, together with the ability to respond to emerging issues while maintaining delivery across multiple priorities.
All staff are required to ensure that within their role and delivery of their work, they consider and incorporate the needs of LGBTIQ+ Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders, Brother Boys and Sister Girls.
The primary focus of the Policy Lead role is to lead policy development, research and advocacy activities that support the organisation’s priorities and the communities it represents. The position will engage with community members, sector partners, government and other stakeholders to identify emerging issues, develop evidence-informed policy positions and contribute to policy and systems change. The role will provide research, analysis, advice and coordination to support effective advocacy and engagement and may assume tasks associated with other policy, advocacy and sector development initiatives within LHA.
At LHA, we are committed to creating a rewarding and fulfilling work environment for our team members. Here’s what we offer:
We encourage applications from diverse backgrounds including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, people with disability, LGBTIQ+ people, BrotherBoys, SisterGirls and people from culturally and linguistically diverse communities.
