Safety Officer

Minimum Qualifications / Experience

Grade 12 certificate A relevant Safety qualification (COMSOC 1&2, SAMTRAC, SHEMTRAC, NEBOSH or NADSAM) as required by MHSA and its regulations Computer proficiency in Microsoft Office Section 7.4 Appointment of Mine Health and Safety Act OHSAS 18001 or 45001 certification Be in possession of a valid First Aid certificate and certificate of fitness Must have a valid driver’s license Blasting / Rock breaking certificate would be advantageous 3 to 5 years’ experience in a mining environment

Duties And Responsibilities (not Limited To)

Conduct site inspections and safety inductions. Investigate all incidents and accidents. Identify which incidents / accidents are reportable and compile reports for DMPR. Ensure all required committees are established, committee members are trained, have valid certificates and are legally appointed as required. Assist with DMPR visits and audits. Conduct safety awareness training for employees in the area if required. Maintain Codes of Practice (COP’s) and Work Instructions (WI’s) by ensuring all required COP’s and WI’s are revised, updated, signed off and distributed to identified parties as required.
