About the role
ANROWS is seeking expressions of interest from people interested in being nominated for appointment as an Independent Director of the Board.
ANROWS is seeking to fill two vacancies over the next two years, with appointments anticipated in 2026 and 2027.
Under the ANROWS Constitution, two Independent Directors must possess research expertise in domestic, family or sexual violence. The Board is therefore seeking candidates with strong research credentials together with the strategic and governance capabilities required of a company director.
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women are strongly encouraged to apply.
As a formal partner to the National Plan, the appointment of Independent Directors involves input from the ANROWS Board as well as the Commonwealth, state and territory governments, as the members of ANROWS.
The ANROWS Board is responsible for the governance, strategic oversight and long-term stewardship of the organisation.
The Board comprises a Chair, five Independent Directors, one Commonwealth Government Director and three State and Territory Government Directors.
Attend 4–6 Board meetings annually, being both in-person and hybrid
Participate in annual strategic planning activities.
Participate in Board committees as required.
Contribute strategic advice and oversight in support of ANROWS' purpose and priorities.
Support effective governance and organisational accountability.
ANROWS Independent appointments to the Board are remunerated.
Independent Directors are appointed for up to 2 x 4 year terms.
Significant senior leadership experience
Research expertise in domestic, family or sexual violence
Understanding of governance responsibilities of company directors
Commitment to the purpose of ANROWS
First Nations knowledge and leadership
Experience working with government
Policy development expertise
Health, legal or social policy expertise
Financial, risk or audit capability
Experience in the not-for-profit sector
ANROWS welcomes candidates with experience across:

Children and Young people
Victim-survivor leadership

i) Completed EOI proforma EXPRESSION OF INTEREST FOR APPOINTMENT TO THE ANROWS BOARD AS AN INDEPENDENT BOARD DIRECTOR. Please email ••••@anrows.org.au for a link to the proforma.
ii) A covering letter identifying why you wish to be considered as a nominee to the ANROWS Board. Identify your strengths, drawing on what you see as important for the contribution you could make to the good governance of ANROWS as well as speaking to your strengths in relation to any areas of the Essential criteria; or in other areas that you think are relevant (max 3 pages).
iii) CV (max 3 pages).
