About the role
A hands-on maintenance fitter's role at a plastics manufacturing site in Moorabbin that is being built into its group's centre of excellence for maintenance. Day shift, Monday to Friday.
This is a broad maintenance seat rather than a narrow repair one — preventative maintenance, breakdown response and fault finding across the moulding machines and the plant around them. If you are good at working out why something has stopped, the moulding side can be taught on site.
What's on offer
$54.58 per hour + super (C7, EBA) — 8-hour paid day including a paid lunch break
Full-time permanent, day shift Monday to Friday — no rotating roster
Start times flexible between 6am and 7am
Overtime available — occasional weekends and weekdays
All tools and laundered uniforms provided
Structured training and upskilling — including robotics, vision systems and condition monitoring
Additional tickets — disconnect/reconnect, dual trade, first aid, fire warden — can lift your classification and your hourly rate
Why this site is different
Most maintenance jobs are a queue of breakdowns. This one is attached to a plan.
The site is being built into its group's centre of excellence for maintenance — the place where the standard gets set and the other plants come to learn it
Industry 4.0 and predictive maintenance, in practice rather than on a poster — machine data, condition monitoring and vision systems used to catch failures before they stop the line
High-speed European thin-wall moulding equipment, with new plant coming as the site expands
Robots, palletising and vision systems across the floor
People development is taken seriously — tickets and qualifications are supported, and the site brings tradespeople up rather than replacing them
Clean. Food packaging standards apply, so this is not a dirty maintenance environment
If you want to keep learning rather than do the same repair for the next ten years, that's the argument for this seat.
What you'll be doing
Planned and preventative maintenance across the moulding machines and auxiliary plant
Breakdown response — fault finding, testing, removing and replacing damaged parts
Diagnosing across mechanical, hydraulic and pneumatic systems, and how they interact with the electrical controls
Work orders through the CMMS
Working on the robots and the vision systems — full training given if this is new to you
Working with contractors and with production to keep downtime down
Suggesting improvements to machinery and process
Site safety, always ahead of production
About you
Trade qualified mechanical fitter or maintenance fitter
Solid maintenance and fault-finding experience in manufacturing — FMCG, packaging, food and beverage, plastics, automotive or printing all translate well
A genuine problem solver. This is the thing the site cares about most
Sound hydraulics and pneumatics — fault finding and component replacement
Injection moulding experience welcome but not required — the site has trained a fitter into it from scratch within the last year
Disconnect/reconnect licence, dual trade, first aid or fire warden tickets are an advantage and are recognised through the classification
An appetite to learn. Automation, robotics, vision systems and predictive maintenance are where this site is heading, and it will train the right person into all of it
Reliable, takes ownership, follows through
