Campaign Director (Voluntary)

About the role

This is a pivotal leadership role within a grassroots independent campaign. As Campaign Director, you'll work closely with the endorsed candidate and a dedicated central campaign team to deliver a campaign for the 2026 Victorian State Election.

Our candidate has been formally endorsed by Voices of Deakin. However, the campaign operates independently from Voices of Deakin, and will recruit, manage, and run its own team and strategy.

This is your chance to play a crucial role in shaping a campaign that prioritises community voices over party politics – one that sits at the heart of a grassroots movement built on listening, transparency, and authentic community engagement.

Responsibilities

• Implement the campaign strategy in collaboration with the candidate and the campaign team
• Lead the day-to-day operations of the campaign, through a strategic, project management lens
• Recruit central campaign team members (or identify from within volunteer ranks)
• Support central campaign team members in meeting their objectives, such as development of a volunteer network, co-ordination of events and local outreach, communications, fundraising etc.
• Oversee budget allocation and ensure resources are deployed effectively and within budget
• Maintain awareness of and ensure compliance with Victorian electoral requirements
• Plan and co-ordinate early voting and election day activities
• Promote a respectful, inclusive community-led campaign culture

You are a strategic thinker, an effective leader, and a skilled communicator who thrives in a fast-paced environment. You are passionate about building a fairer, more participatory democracy.

• Demonstrated experience in project management and co-ordinating teams (paid or volunteer)
• Strong interpersonal and collaboration skills, with the ability to work across diverse groups
• Self-motivated and time-flexible
• Commitment to ethical conduct, integrity, and respectful political engagement
• Personal alignment with community-led, independent democratic values

Commitment

This is a voluntary leadership position. Time demands will increase as the campaign progresses, particularly during early voting and on election day.

Due to the potential time demands, two Co-campaign Directors may be considered for the right people.
