Irrigation Technician – Avocado Farm

FARMVEST is seeking an experienced and reliable Irrigation Technician to join our avocado farming operation in the Mareeba region on a casual basis.

This is a hands-on role suited to someone with irrigation and agricultural experience who takes pride in working safely, accurately and efficiently.

About the Role

As an Irrigation Technician, you will be responsible for the operation, monitoring and maintenance of irrigation systems across our avocado farming operation, helping to ensure efficient water and nutrient delivery to our crops.

Key responsibilities include:

• Irrigation operations: Operate and monitor irrigation systems to ensure crops receive the required water efficiently and effectively.

• System monitoring: Regularly inspect irrigation systems, pumps, filters, valves and irrigation lines to identify faults, leaks or performance issues.

• Maintenance and repairs: Carry out routine maintenance and repairs to irrigation equipment and infrastructure.

• Troubleshooting: Identify and resolve irrigation system faults and report more complex issues to farm management.

• Fertigation: Assist with the operation and monitoring of fertigation systems in accordance with farm management.

• Water management: Monitor irrigation performance and assist with efficient water use across the farm.

• Record keeping: Maintain accurate irrigation, maintenance and operational records.

• Safety and compliance: Follow all WHS, environmental and farm safety requirements.

What You'll Bring

We're looking for someone with:

• Previous experience with agricultural or horticultural irrigation systems.

• A good understanding of irrigation equipment, pumps, valves, filters and irrigation lines.

• Practical mechanical and problem-solving skills.

• The ability to identify, troubleshoot and repair irrigation faults.

• Strong attention to detail and a commitment to safety.

• The ability to work independently and as part of a team.

• Previous experience with fertigation systems would be highly regarded.

• Previous experience in avocado or horticultural operations would be an advantage.

• Unrestricted working rights in Australia.

• The ability to work flexible hours when required to meet irrigation and operational requirements.
