About the role
William Barrett and Sons, a prestigious fourth-generation family-run funeral home and an industry leader in Australia, is seeking a compassionate and dedicated Funeral Directors Assistant. This is an entry level role into the Funeral Industry and an excellent pathway for someone looking to develop a career in meaningful work, making a positive difference in people's most difficult times.
Key Responsibilities:
Assist in the set-up and execution of funeral services, ensuring each aspect is handled with dignity and respect.
Operate audio-visual systems during services to ensure a seamless experience.
Conduct the transfer of deceased persons with utmost care, professionalism and safety.
Prepare coffins and caskets, adhering to specific family requests and maintaining high standards of presentation.
Provide support to funeral directors and other team members as needed.
Requirements:
A current and valid driver's license.
Ability to provide a recent police clearance certificate.
Flexibility to work 13 weekends per year and availability for on-call duties one night per week.
Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work compassionately with grieving families.
High attention to detail, a solution-focussed attitude, exceptional teamwork and communication skills and a commitment to professionalism in all aspects of the role.
Desirable Qualities:
Previous experience in the funeral industry or a similar role (preferred but not essential).
Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
A respectful, empathetic, over-and-above approach to service.
Ability to work well under pressure and in emotionally charged situations.
